Queen recommended £7.99 nail polish for Kate, Meghan and Eugenie weddings

Royal weddings are the most lavish of occasions – with hundreds of thousands spent on even the little touches.

Expensive flower displays, designer dresses and jewelled tiaras are just some of the things that come to mind on the big day.

But when it comes to beauty tips, it seems the royal family are just like the rest of us.

A tradition started by the Queen has seen a £7.99 beauty product take a starring role.

In three royal weddings, the tip has proved very handy.

Princess Eugenie, who married partner Jack Brooksbank in 2018, couldn't resist – and Meghan Markle made sure she didn't miss out.

Even Kate Middleton used it when she married Prince William nine years ago, although she adapted it slightly.

All three brides wore a nail polish favoured by the Queen, who reportedly thinks bright colours on nails are garish.

The sheer pink Essie nail polish, named 'Ballet Slippers' due to its delicate colour, costs under £8 a bottle.

So you, too, could have the nails of a royal bride for a bargain price.

The Queen began a love affair with the varnish in 1989, when her hairdresser reportedly requested a bottle to be sent to Buckingham Palace.

She's been a fan ever since, finding brighter shades of nail polish 'vulgar' – which is why you'll never see Kate or Meghan with red nails.

A spokesperson for Essie said in early 2017: "We're incredibly proud that the Queen and Kate Middleton have enjoyed our products over the years."

"At Essie we strive to create beautiful, professional colours that appeal to every woman for every occasion."

"‘Ballet Slippers’ is by far one of our most popular shades, and it’s great to see it has a loyal following amongst all."

Meghan followed suit a year later at her wedding to Prince Harry in May.

And Princess Eugenie showed she too was a fan of her Granny's favourite nail colour.
