Kate Middleton ‘copying Meghan Markle to seem more down-to-earth in Zoom calls’

Kate Middleton is said to be taking a leaf out of Meghan Markle's book to appear "relatable" in Zoom meetings by carefully positioning certain items behind her.

Talking on the podcast "Royally Obsessed", writers Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie said "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" and suggested Kate got the idea of accessories from Meghan.

"It felt very produced," said Roberta, talking about Kate's recent Zoom meeting from her sitting room in Kensington Palace Apartment 1A with nurse Johannah Churchill and doctor Edward Cole.

Rachel said: "It felt like it was part of a movie or a documentary or something.

"And it's interesting because – so many people have called this out and we're not the first to call this out – Meghan's Zoom setup, now Kate on a couch with a table behind her with the photos and the vase and the flowers, it seems so similar."

During video calls, Meghan and Harry appear to put a lot of effort into arranging their books – and have moved them around three times in a single month.

"Women: National Geographic Image Collection" is seen behind Meghan when she made an appearance on America's Got Talent, again when she and Harry spoke to activist Malala Yousafzai, and also when the pair did a video call with Time100.

The couple also appeared to have carefully positioned flowers and family photographs behind themselves.

Similarly, Kate had a vase of white flowers behind her in her latest video call.

Rachel adds: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery as we say… it's just funny because it's them trying to feel more relatable and copy that style that the Sussexes have nailed."

Kate's video call with the NHS workers was also the first time she revealed her new hairstyle, which is more blonde than her usual chestnut-brown hair colour.

The Duchess of Cambridge is a keen amateur photographer and several pictures of her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louie, are displayed on the shelf behind her.

She wears a blue Boden jumper and the rest of the furnishings and decor look traditional.
